The Michigan Concrete Canoe Team is a multidisciplinary engineering project team dedicated to designing and constructing a fully functional canoe made entirely of concrete. As a member of the team I held the position of Captain. In my role I was the project manager and supervised all aspects of the construction of the canoe. I led a team of approximately 30 engineers to ensure a smooth project schedule and an excellent finished product. I was responsible for keeping everyone on track and working toward the same goal. This project team allowed me to learn valuable leadership, communication, and teamwork skills while working in an area outside my field of study.

In the 2018 season, I led the team to its first ever regional competition championship which qualified MCCT for the ASCE National Competition for the first time in the 25 year history of the team.

In the 2016-2017 season I held the position of Chief Engineer of Mix Design. This is a senior technical role in which I was responsible for mix specifications, construction, crack management, and finishing processes. I was able to leverage my engineering skills learned in the classroom in an area outside my field of study to create the lightest and strongest concrete possible. I also led a sub-team of engineers to streamline the mix design process. My work supported the team goals to compete at the highest level and deliver an aesthetically pleasing and excellent performing finished product.
